ClayAdvisory is a boutique consultancy led by John Clay, a senior business executive with a broad background in B2B marketing and communications expertise
With over 30 years’ experience in board, senior roles and consulting assignments in Australia, Asia Pacific and the UK, John has led functions and advised at C suite and Board level in organisations ranging from global corporates to Australian SMEs.
For the last 12 years John has led Marketing & Communications teams comprising up to 50 people in professional services firms, with accountability over the full life cycle of winning work and customer experience. Prior to this, John had an extensive career within the telecommunications, IT and Health sectors; with prime accountabilities of segmentation and insights, developing value propositions, building brand awareness and client engagement programs to win work.
Skilled at operating in complex organizations; developing strategy, leading change and implementing programs across functions to integrate people, process and technology to build brand, generate revenue and keeping all key stakeholders engaged.

Arup Australasia’s John Clay has taken out certifying Practising Marketer of the Year and Publicis’ chairman, Andrew Baxter, the Sir Charles McGrath Award for industry contribution at this year’s Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) Awards.
AMI CEO, Lee Tonitto, said the awards recognised and celebrated the biggest marketing success stories of the year.
“These awards were presented to organisations and marketers who have achieved extraordinary results from innovative and effective marketing practices,” she said.
The year B2B marketing gets personal

Account-based marketing programs are nothing new, however over the next 12 months I believe we will see an increase in the tailoring and personalisation of marketing programs to support the delivery of value and enhanced customer experience to specific clients.

A remarkable journey

Alumnus John Clay (MBA 1988) was recently the recipient of Australia's highest marketing honour, the Certified Practicing Marketer award. He has gone a long way since graduating from the first ever MBA cohort at Nottingham University Business School thirty years ago…literally! We caught up with John to find out about his journey from the East Midlands to 'the land Down Under'.
Year in review with senior marketers

The biggest issue that kept me awake this year concerned a major legal issue and the subsequent communications to all key stakeholders. Crisis communications management in a 24 hours “always on” global media landscape was challenging and certainly enhanced my experience and capabilities.
